Nahwa al-Muwatiniya

Nahwa al-Muwatiniya (Na-aM) is a non-profit organization founded by individuals from all walks of life and from a mosaic of political, cultural, and religious backgrounds. We are members of civil society concerned with the state of affairs in Lebanon and beyond, and we seek to effect positive change through informed activism and engagement.

Nahwa al-Muwatiniya empowers and mobilizes citizens towards active participation in governance through the following:

  1. Research issues of importance to the public and publish study results
  2. Improve education and develop essential individual and group skills
  3. Enhance awareness while advocating and lobbying for change
  4. Increase partnerships between individuals, organizations, and countries

The Root Space

RootSpace is a non-profit organization in Lebanon dedicated to supporting and fostering sustainable social and economic development through innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. RootSpace is a cross-fertilization of three concepts: a co-working space, a professional development and training program for businesses and organizations, and a social entrepreneurship incubator. The RootSpace office is a multi-use workspace that is set up to meet the needs of a variety of members and clients innovators and entrepreneurs, organizations, groups, and startups and fosters a working community rooted in cooperation, collaborative problem solving, social entrepreneurship, technology use, and sustainable development.

Public Safety

Youth Association for Social Awareness

Youth Association for Social Awareness (YASA), was registered as an NGO in 1996 and works on safety promotion through education and lobbying. It aims to spread awareness among all people, especially the youth, about accident prevention in order to decrease all types of unintentional preventable injuries. YASA also seeks law enforcement concerning public safety issues through lobbying and continuous awareness campaigns. Moreover, YASA aims to provide social assistance and support to the victims of traffic crashes.

YASA’s fields of interest include but are not limited to:

  1. Children safety
  2. Safety inside cars
  3. Pedestrian safety
  4. Road maintenance
  5. Alcohol abuse
  6. Motorcycle safety
  7. Driving license improvements
  8. School bus safety
  9. Emergency systems and truck safety
  10. Maritime Safety

Lebanese Association for School Safety Awareness

The Lebanese Association for School Safety Awareness (LASSA) was launched in 2005 to help the educational institutions in school accidents’ prevention.

The association’s goals are:

  1. To promote school safety through the association’s services and guidance.
  2. To help official and private schools through an individualized program.
  3. To give seminars and presentations concerning school safety.
  4. To launch awareness campaigns through media in order to reach all societies’ sections.

Lebanese Fire Prevention Committee

The Lebanese Fire Prevention Committee (LFPC) was established in 1998 with the aims to counter the wide spread problem of fire accidents and related injuries and losses in Lebanon (domestic fires, forest fires, industrial fires, and fires in buildings), to spread fire prevention awareness, to advocate protection of environmental resources, and to boost networking among various parties concerned with public safety and fire protection i.e. secure effectiveness of solutions to problems arising from fires.

Since 1999, the LFPC has been involved in the protection of human lives and the environment through organizing and participating in activities related to different fire safety in several countries. These endeavors include:

  1. Fire safety interventions for more than 50,000 students spread over the different regions of Lebanon to promote fire safety and injury prevention.
  2. Organizing a bi-annual nationwide student competition for fire related drawings, songs and poems to which the organization received thousands of submissions. The outstanding ones were exhibited during LFPC’s National Fire Prevention Conferences.
  3. Disseminating specialized educational programs for school-aged children (since 2000).
  4. Giving lectures for the military service and university students on fire hazards, ways to avoid them and essential measures to take in case of injury (since 2000).

Environment

Association for Forests, Development and Conservation

The Association for Forests, Development and Conservation (AFDC) was established in 1993 to achieve sustainable conservation of natural resources, raise awareness and build capacities to contribute to the national efforts for better environmental management. Fundamental to AFDC’s mission is the pursuit of community-based conservation for the sustainable livelihoods of people. This comes from the idea that conservation will fail if local communities do not benefit from it.

AFDC's objectives include:

  1. Developing local communities while maintaining conservation and the sustainable management of forests and natural resources.
  2. Capacity building and public awareness in fields and issues related to the environment and sustainable development.
  3. Conducting and disseminating studies and research related to different environmental and sustainable development issues.
  4. Lobbying for changes in environmental and sustainable development policies.
  5. Encouraging youth involvement and participation in development practices including working towards the establishment of youth centers and hostels.

Masrah Al Arab

Masrah Al Arab (Arab theater) is a social theater focused on creating new works of art in various art forms.

Sharif Abdunnur, founder and director of Masrah Al Arab, invites everyone to take part in the future plays, learn how to act and direct, and even transform their script into a play.
